Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about working with Mesa Point - engagement structure, pricing, implementation oversight, and what you can expect.

What if we disagree on a decision definition?

Discovery includes validation checkpoints at weeks 2, 4, and 6. If there's disagreement on scope or definitions, we pause, align with stakeholders, and document consensus before proceeding. You have exit points at each milestone-if we're not delivering value, you can stop without completing the full engagement.

Do you work remotely or on-site?

Engagements are primarily remote with 2-3 on-site visits: kickoff (week 1), mid-point validation (week 5-6), and final delivery (week 10-12). This reduces your costs while maintaining quality. On-site intensity increases during implementation oversight when we're working directly with engineering teams.

What happens if our implementation takes longer than 12 weeks?

Our engagement ends when authority frameworks are delivered and validated-typically week 12. If your implementation extends beyond that timeline, we offer optional monthly advisory support ($5K/month) for ongoing guidance. However, you own all frameworks and can operate them independently without continued Mesa Point involvement.

What's included in "implementation oversight"?

Weekly 90-minute working sessions with your engineering team during weeks 7-12. We review technical implementation against decision authority frameworks, validate that deployed systems operate within approved boundaries, and provide final sign-off when authority is proven in operation.

What Implementation Oversight Includes:

  • Weekly 90-minute working sessions with your engineering team
  • Technical review: Validate implementation matches decision authority frameworks
  • Boundary verification: Confirm systems operate within approved limits
  • Escalation testing: Verify stop conditions and human override protocols work
  • Final sign-off: Authority proven in operation before we exit

Division of Work:

  • Your team builds: Code, systems, and technical implementation
  • We validate: What's built matches approved authority frameworks
  • Your team manages: Project timelines and daily execution
  • We ensure: Systems execute within governance boundaries

What if the Discovery Sprint reveals we need $500K instead of $300K?

The Discovery Sprint delivers transparent scoping with estimated complexity, decision count, and recommended timeline. If your organization is more complex than initially estimated, we provide revised scope and fixed-fee pricing before you commit to the full engagement. The $5K Discovery Sprint fee is credited toward any engagement size.

Typical variance: +/-15% from Discovery Sprint estimate. If we quote $280K and actual complexity reveals $320K, we tell you before proceeding.

Do we need to license the platform after the engagement ends?

All deliverables-Decision Authority Matrix, governance frameworks, technical specifications, board presentations-are yours to own and operate independently.

Optional: Continued platform access for ongoing decision tracking, governance updates, and audit trail maintenance is available at $3K/month. Most clients use this for 6-12 months post-engagement to maintain governance as their organization evolves.

Can we start with just ONE critical decision instead of mapping 60?

Yes. Our Critical Decision Deep-Dive focuses on one high-risk automation opportunity in 3 weeks for $75K. You get complete authority definition, technical specifications, and governance frameworks for that single decision (e.g., demand forecasting, credit approval, pricing algorithms).

This is ideal for testing our methodology on your most critical automation before committing to organization-wide discovery. Can expand to full engagement after validation.

How do you work with our existing implementation partners?

We coordinate with your engineering team, IT partners, or external consultancies. We provide decision authority frameworks and technical specifications, then validate their implementation matches approved governance boundaries.

Your implementation partners build systems. We ensure what's built operates within approved authority. This collaboration ensures technical execution aligns with business governance.

What if we find issues during implementation oversight?

We flag deviations from approved authority immediately. You decide whether to adjust implementation or revise authority frameworks. Our role is ensuring alignment between what was approved and what's being built.

Common scenarios: AI model making decisions outside approved thresholds, escalation paths not triggering correctly, or governance audit trails not capturing required data. We identify these during weekly reviews and work with your team to correct them before deployment.

How long does it typically take from first call to engagement start?

Typical timeline from first contact to engagement kickoff:

  • Week 1: 30-minute discovery call to assess fit
  • Week 2: $5K Discovery Sprint (if needed) or direct to scoping
  • Week 3: Scoping report delivered, pricing confirmed
  • Week 4: Contract signed, engagement begins

Most mid-market organizations move from first call to engagement start in 3-4 weeks. Enterprise organizations with procurement requirements may take 6-8 weeks.
